The Alumni Design Award is granted by the faculty to a graduating student in the Bachelor of Architecture program. The award recognizes exceptional design and representation as demonstrated through studio work within the last two years of the program.

Carnegie Mellon Architecture will announce the call for applications for the next award cycle in the fall of 2024.

Mission

The Alumni Design Award is granted by Carnegie Mellon Architecture faculty to a graduating student in the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program. The award recognizes exceptional design and representation as demonstrated through studio work within the last two years of the program. The awardee is announced at the school’s annual Diploma Ceremony.

Evaluation Criteria

To be considered for the Alumni Design Award, applicants must submit a complete application that includes the following information:

  • A positioning statement (200 words maximum) that frames the work in terms of a theme of the applicant’s own choosing and how this is represented in their portfolio.
  • A design portfolio (<20 MB, 25 pages maximum) of curated design work from the final two years of studio that includes a table of contents and the following items: 1) the positioning statement; 2) design portfolio.

Note: Applicants may include collaborative projects but must state which projects were done in collaboration with others. Applicants should only show work examples that they directly contributed to. For each collaborative project, the applicant must indicate the names of all authors and which aspect(s) of the project they worked on.

Eligibility & Schedule

All graduating fifth-year students receiving a Bachelor of Architecture degree are eligible to apply.
