SoA Graduate Exchange: Lecture Series - Zack Semke, NK Architects "Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Jevons Paradox?"

  • CFA 214

Passive House design and construction promises that buildings can be part of the climate solution: build super-efficient structures, add renewable generation, and buildings can help restore climate balance. But are we fooling ourselves? Doesn’t the Jevons Paradox prove that energy efficiency measures increase consumption? Isn’t it inevitable that oil/gas/coal companies will extract everything from the earth and burn it anyway? Drawing on environmental economics literature, the latest renewable energy data, and research by three of the world’s leading investment firms, Zack will unpack these angst-causing notions.

Co-sponsored by Passive House Western Pennsylvania, Green Building Alliance, Nicholson Kovalchick Architects, and Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture.
